Three

Today’s on-this-day photo shows Britten-Norman BN-2A-III Trislander, ZK-LGF, of Great Barrier Airlines.

It’s looking a little forlorn sitting at North Shore Aerodrome in 2014.

Also… what’s with “BN-2A-III” and not, like, BN-2C, or even BN-3? (There were BN-2B and BN-2T models, both with just the two engines.)

The aircraft is a rich, warm red, though the tail-mounted engine has a different shade of red and is altogether much glossier. The paint elsewhere looks worn. It is sitting on an overgrown taxiway which is barely wide enough for it. The adjacent grass is 'summer length'. The sky is blue with distant clouds.
