Gulf

Today’s on-this-day photo from 2009 shows an extremely rare visitor to Wellington — that I know of, it is the only time an Airbus A340 has visited.

Gulf Air’s A340-300, A9C-LI, had brought the Bahrain Football team for a game against New Zealand for 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification.

The aircraft is gold on the front, white on the back, with a dark blue stripe dividing in a sweep 30 degrees from horizontal. There is a gold stylised bird of prey on the tail. The aircraft is parked on the domestic apron, away from the gates. Behind is a hillside with houses and a dull grey sky.
