Today’s on-this-day photo comes from a 2006 visit to RNZAF Base Auckland, at Whenuapai.

It depicts Lockheed P-3K Orion, NZ4201, wearing a special anniversary scheme commemorating 40 years of service.

The aircraft is mid-grey with a very dark blue tail. On the tail are the words "1966-2006" "RNZAF P-3 ORION OPERATIONS" in white. The aircraft is at the end of the runway about to take off. The airfield grass is green and in the background are some green trees and a grey sky.
